The Forgotten Muscle

One of the most important muscles necessary for optimal performance is probably the most neglected. I’m speaking of course of the diaphragm muscle. This large, flat parachute-like muscle allows us to breathe; it pulls in oxygenated air and more importantly, expels unwanted carbon dioxide.

Most people assume that a flat, hard stomach is the ideal picture of health. The problem is that if your abdominal muscles are too tight they can inhibit the function of the diaphragm adversely affecting oxygen intake and carbon dioxide removal.

Sleep- Your Hidden Weapon.

When it comes to being healthy the two words that you hear most are “diet” and “exercise”. Hit the gym, go for a run, stay away from those refined sugars and carbs and you should be good, right? But the one thing that’s missing from this equation and the one thing that most of us take for granted is something that should come easy - sleep. If you want to heal and recuperate from the wear and tear of your daily activity and training you better not discount the importance of a good nights rest.

The average American gets about 6 hours of sleep a night, which is unfortunately not enough. And that’s not counting all the ups and downs to use the bathroom and countless hours we spend staring at the ceiling trying to fall asleep or waking in the middle of the night. It shouldn’t take you 30 minutes to fall asleep and you shouldn’t have to get up and go pee throughout the night. What’s going on here?
