One of the most important muscles necessary for optimal performance is probably the most neglected. I’m speaking of course of the diaphragm muscle. This large, flat parachute-like muscle allows us to breathe; it pulls in oxygenated air and more importantly, expels unwanted carbon dioxide.
Most people assume that a flat, hard stomach is the ideal picture of health. The problem is that if your abdominal muscles are too tight they can inhibit the function of the diaphragm adversely affecting oxygen intake and carbon dioxide removal.
